Well I've had a great time with my new Haffie mare for the past couple of weeks. She is listening to me in the school and has produced some really lovely and fluid sessions where I really felt we were floating on air. We no longer nap at E (after a clarification moment where I told her off big time)and things are on the up. In terms of hacking out she is great with a walker but jogged one time we hacked alone. Yesterday we hacked alone and met my instructor on the last third of hack all went well , my girl was slower than normal and looking at things but nothing naughty despite the wind and rain. Today we have out alone again and one third into the hack she plants and spins constantly all the time workjing towards home. In the end due to tractors passing etc I went home and took her straight back out in hand walking the whole route - she was fine:rolleyes:.

I know it's the signals that I don't realise I'm sending - I actually felt very positive today but she senses something. So do I need another clarification moment and just man up and push the argument out hacking?? I'm really down about this as she has been this route many times before and a few lawnmowers and screaming kids have never set her off before:confused:

Thanks for listening:)

I think that your main priority has to be safety, of yourself, the horse and other road users. Could you have got off where she planted, rather than going home and led her the rest of the way, possibly getting back on for the home stretch?
Can you arrange for someone to wait for you on foot at strategic points on your hack, so that you know they re there and they will be ready to rescue you if necesssary? I expect you are right and sshe senses your insecuruty when you are hacking alone. I have to say that I don't think that a road is not the place to have a battle.

Yes that was my worry and I'm sure she knows that too. I've gone for the strategic places option and suggested that hubby waits just around the corner tomorrow and further up the road another day so we can start again with small steps. She normally gives up on an evasion if you ride positively but seemed determined today.
