*Severe warning* No hat..... :-(

Oh TS....Yes she is busted ! ! ! I'm very sensitive about safety gear. Don't do what I do !.,(did) I was so stupid......

Louise knows how I feel about wearing her hat ! She may have forgotten that I broke my neck riding without one !

Come on Louise, you would ground the girls for ever if they did that !
I love you to bits....But do it.....to please me ?
That's you officially told ! ! !;)

What a lovely, lovely horse, and you ride him very well.

As for the non hat wearing, well its just as well you are not living in the UK, and wishing to avail yourself of NHS facilities if you need brain surgery caused by a non hat wearing fall. One less burden for the hard pressed UK tax payer.

So, someone else looking to improve the gene pool of the human race by not wearing a hat.

Oh yes ! When I was 14years old, like all teenagers I thought I knew everything ! One think I knew was no fear !
And I paid the price ! Haven't ridden since.
That was 54years ago ! !
AND I was realy, realy lucky.
BUT, as for "the gene pool" I didn't do so badly, Louisem, in case you haven't twigged is my daughter, and she has three of the most beautiful, talented
inteligent girls on the planet !......
And they all ride brilliantly !:D:D:D

Lets not get into the pros and cons of the politics and the NHS, As I said before,
and I will say it again.... I was very, very lucky.
Back in the "olden days" All the treatment I had from the NHS was superb.

I suppose my point is .... A thoughtless moment can change your life forever.

Just to let you know....
Louisem & the girls are my stars and they Shine !

Wow he's massive  He's lovely and really suits the electric blue

TXI, really? Do you feel the same about all patients who take unnecessary risks - smokers, alcoholics, motorcyclists...? Last time I checked a large proportion of the NHS' patients are not purely the blamelessly ill or injured

Surely horse riding is an unnecessary risk full stop!? Being on the floor next to them is the biggest danger IMO. Just for the record I am a devout hat wearer, apart from one time I had to have a go at jousting... It was the people on the floor that needed protecting that day!

Anyway, the fact your mum's told you off should be enough for the Hat Brigade.

That horse is gigantic, I reckon even TS and I would look like squirts on him! He looks rather happy too :D

No I dont feel like this about people taking risks, and agree riding is a risk sport. I dont smoke either, nor am I am alcoholic either and motor cyclists have to wear helmets - its the law. However, what I disagree with is people who have the CHOICE taking an unncessary risk. It makes my blood run cold when I see people riding without hats IMO it is not smart, elegant or clever - think that American dressage rider. OK their choice, their head etc. However, if that risk could be reduced by just popping your hat on and doing it up, which takes literally seconds, would you rather not take it.

I also dont work for the NHS, but have some good friends who do, and am also a higher rate tax payer and would rather my tax payments went towards treating people who did not make such an uninformed choice. Please feel free to roll your eyes upwards, its your opinion, and I am expressing mine.

OP - I am really sorry to hijack your thread, I am not normally that rude, but I am rather evangelical about hat wearing, I have my reasons, so please accept my apologies and lets not further this debate. - Your horse is lovely!

Last word from Mum (O K last few words from Mum !)

TX1....I learned a very big lesson ! I had my accident in the days when most of the top riders only seemed to wear their hats in the ring, and most didn't even wear their chin straps at all!
I suppose the word to describe this would be "uncool" They didn't probably think about it, or it was uncomfortable etc; ! Whatever !

I haven't taken offence or anything like that. A good healthy debate is good for the soul, and you were absolutely right. I was just giving my daughter a gentle
reminder.

One thing, I love the idea of being "evangelical" about Hats ! Funny thing is,
my Grandmother would have had a fit if either my sister or I had left the house
to go to church, town or anywhere without a "hat" and gloves ! ! Different generation.

But now I am a pensioner and I think I will join you and become an
"Evangelical Pensioner "about hats ! Now that is in my genes ! ! Grandma would approve ! :D:D

Goodness, sounds like my grandmother regarding hats etc, especially coats when it looked a bit like rain. Not quite a pensioner as yet, and as someone intending to grow old disgracefully, elegantly and with my brain intact, I shall continue to remain rather 'evangelical' about hat wearing. Its nice no offence was taken, some of these threads can degenerate into a right nasty fray, particularly among some of the lets just say more outspoken forum members. Agree debate and opinion is healthy, and should be actively encouraged - as my business partner always says to me 'My perception of things is ........' when we are debating contentious, opnion based matters in a Board Meeting with our younger, more junior Directors. Trouble is he is right ......... b*gger, a man being right! Never thought I would find myself saying that.

Back to the horses though - I still think he is gorgeous, albeit rather huge. Personally anything above 15.2 is big for me. More posts on pony, please.

i cant make sense of most of this thread :p gorgeous big horse, stupidity to ride without at hat imho, dont get the thing about the grass growing under the jumps and the telling off from mother. Is the other poster really your mum? Is he really 18.2hh? Confused, is there a wind up on the go of some sort?:o

in a nutshell ;)

the suggestion is that louisem is too lazy to move her jumps around in the arena so they have been there sooo long that the grass is growing under them.

afaik.. yes louisemum is really louisem's mum

and given the measurements (and the look of the thing!) yes he would be really 18.2.

Oh so sorry NSN !
Yes I am realy Louisem 's Proud Mum! And as she lives in Belgium and I live in G.B. I am able to keep up with whats's going on via the web ! I can still put my 5 pennysworth forward when I need too, like most Mums ?

Louise was jumping on her b.....y big horse at home WITHOUT her hat ! Someone (forget who ? ?) spotted that some of the jumps hadn't moved in a while because of a few tufts of grass ? and commented on that ! (With me so far ?)

Then got into a discussion about wearing hats etc; .....

And now I've forgotten what else ? But enjoyed it anyway .......:D

lol ok, thanks for interpreting, i must be slow :p

Having just watched the video, I'd need an oxygen mask at that altitude, quite apart from a hat  Lovely horse, though!

Each to their own folks! I posted in NL about my fall today, I landed on my head, I was wearing a hat, the only time I don't is when i'm riding western.

There is no point in bickering about it, we have the choice, I don't moan at those who don't wear hats, not my place to do so.

** like ** :)

My mother had to visit me in hospital (I was in resus, my face was open to the bone & I had skull fractures through to the brain) following a serious head injury. I broke pretty much every bone in my face. No parent/sibling should go through that if it can be prevented.

I now live with constant pain and have spent this week in bed sick as a dog due to starting on immunosuppressants because the trauma to my body has caused an autoimmune disease. I am 3 stone heavier, can't do the sports that I previously enjoyed, and am in a mess health wise.

Please never joke about riding without a hat. For those of us who've had head injuries, it is painfully frustrating, in more ways than one.

For Puppy...

I understand every painful thing you have said, and my heart goes out to you.
I can't say anything to you that will take this awful hurt away.
My accident happened 54years ago and I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people alive.
I had no outward scars except scratches and scrapes.
This thread was no joke, maybe it was approached in a light hearted way But
I think and hope that the message was very clear.....
To wear a hat can be a life saver ! Just do it !

I wish you good luck in your journey back to a healthy life.

OMG Puppy, so sorry to hear that. I do hope that you eventually return to full health, however, it does sound like a long old road. Loads of famous HHO healing vibes going your way from me.

I can never understand the 'my head, my choice' brigade at all.

Putting aside the hat issue (having been dropped on my head once by a youngster, which split my hat clean in two, and resulted in a broken neck but no brain/ head damage, you can probably guess my thoughts!) I just wanted to say you place him beautifully at every fence, i wish I could see a stride like you!

Well,as you have read,it's 'hat's on' for me from now on.
And thank you for the compliment. Though believe me,it's not always the case....
However, the better the canter, the easier it is to see a stride, and I think you will agree,he has a LOVELY canter!!! :-)
