The farm where I used to live had a dog which they said was an innuit - he was slightly bigger than their GSD but much whiter than yours seem to be in the photos? Would he be an Innuit, or a crossbred?

Not sure if it is an innuit thing but he barked his b***y head off all the time (including all evening when they were out, as he was left shut in the garden

) but he was actually as soft as anything and was frightened of my greyhound & lurcher

Sorry only just come online!

Hmm...sounds like a cross bred. Apart from when there is someone at the gate or the postman I don't hear a peep out of mine, the breed are known for howling rather than barking and as soon as my lot are told 'Quiet' it goes quiet apart from one....our GSD

lol

There are a few people around who breed GSD to Husky and call it an inuit and don't health check e.t.c and also mal x GSD e.t.c you get the picture but they're not inuits. Inuit dogs were originally GSD x Husky x Mal but no new blood from any of those breeds have been introduced for a good 30 years making them a breed in their own right, albeit a new one!

Also Inuits should be similar size to GSD's ie Bitches at 23-26 and dogs 26-28 at the shoulder. They can be a reddish brown, silver, wolf grey or white though so vary in colour.

Would be interested in seeing a pic of him. Did they say whether he was registered?

He always intrigued me TBH - he had what I would call a better topline than many GSDs you see nowadays (sorry, going to incur the wroth of the GSD people there

), and had dark eyes not pale. He looked to me a lot more GSD than anything but he had a cream coloured coat with a darker saddle. He was definitely bigger than their GSD dog too.

I havent got any pics I'm afraid but they got him from a rescue place so they wouldnt have known if he was registered - although they knew he was a softie he looked the part for potential passing burglars

Oh - and he howled as well, but always ignored me shouting 'will you PLEASE shut UP' out of my bedroom window

Thanks for the info though, that is interesting

Hi just seen your topic never new they did dogs just thought it was horses, I have a beautiful 14 month old inuit, she is ink coloured and has a masked face. She is very large and does howl she also answers back an awful lot. She has the gentlest nature but is hard work as is very willful and dominant. She has just had to have her second op on her knee as it started dislocating when she was 4 months. If you are ever at an event I'm at you will here her.

Hi could you tell me please is there a difference in the type of innuit you breed and a northern innuit? I know some one who bought a northern innuit a few years ago and she had to wait a long time to get the pup as there wernt many in the country at that time i believe.

Hi Mort,

They all come from the same lines, its unfortunately politics which is sad for the breeds!

I think we have gone our own seperate ways though and in 20 or so years the breed will look very different from each other I'd have thought.

I agree she is of the original malmute, alsation and husky mix. There aren't many breeders that are reputable and it doesnt help as the breed is not yet recognised by the kennel club. Iwould love to know what your inuit is fed on severmiles as mine use to feed great and we could never seem to fill her up, but from about 13 months old she has become really fussy and I struggle to get her to eat enough
