Our puppies are fast approaching their "going home" dates, and wanted to know if there is anything that makes the transistion easier.
Someone suggested each puppy going with its own bit of bed so it has a familiar smell, and getting them used to being in a crate ect ect.
Am i missing anything????

Ta muchly!

I always send my pups away with a sack of puppy food they are used to so they dont get a tummy upset on top of getting used to new people ect.

I also print a sheet out saying when i normally feed them, when they where last wormed and what with, info about the breed and what to expect.

My mind has gone blank now, im sure someone else can add to what i have said.

Oh this post has just reminded me I haven't changed my Xmas name back!

We send all the puppy's with a puppy pack so that they continue on the same food, that's quite important, if they've been on one brand from 4 weeks old then for a new owner to suddenly change the food it can be a real shock to the system. Failing the puppy pack just give the new owners a quantity of food.

As someone said, if you can spare some vet bed, or whatever bedding they have been on then it would be comforting and also getting them used to a crate is a good idea. We always get our puppies going to the toilet on newspaper or scented pads so that they know where to go to the loo - they usually learn that bit very quickly.

An advice sheet with do's and don'ts, training tips for that particular breed, a list of bad foods and good foods e.t.c. A list of when vaccs are due, when they're next due for worming and what brand.

I can't think of anything else at the mo but I had a late night and a very early morning this morning!!

Agree with all the above. I usually ask new owners to bring a piece of bedding and put that in with the pups rather than give them my bedding. I also used to prepare a puppy contract, signed by myself and the new owner, which covered things like taking back puppy or refunding purchse price if it developed a hereditary defect, and most important, the new owner signing to say that they would contact me if they are unable to keep the dog, so that I can either take it back or help rehoming it. Also details of a good training club in their area.

I agree with everything mentioned, I also think it's a good idea to send with them something to gnaw on, maybe some Chew Twists or similar. Just in case the buyer have been thinking more about getting a leash, bed and toys.

Besides what SevernMisteltoe have mentioned to include in the advice sheet, I would like to add a few lines and maybe a simple drawing about how to clip the nails.

We talked about the pet insurances you could get in Sweden (life and/or veterinarian insurance, some choose just the vet. option), ditto MurphysMinder we talked about training clubs, I had a folder from and about the Swedish Kennel Klubb to the buyer and I also showed them the breed clubs (SLK) own "magazine" and talked a little about it (if the breeder informs SLK about the new puppy-owner, puppy-buyers gets the first year free, so my buyer would get it anyway, but can't hurt to talk about it a little).

Now, I've never thought as to whether new owners would know or not, I always clip their nails before they leave (and obviously as and when needs be when they are under 8 weeks). Thanks FLP, something new to include!

Since I had the time, I clipped the nails a "last" time together with the new owners before they left, so they would see how I handled a puppy getting bored after one paw etc. I clipped some and new owner clipped some, but I thought there was so much info, that I worried it would be forgotten if I'd not included something to help remember what and how we had done in writing also.

It came to my mind because I thought through if there was something I had wished "my" breeders had done, that they hadn't. It wasn't difficult to remember the first times I "confronted" those tiny, of course mostly black, little nail-things... Not quite, but almost
