i was just wondering if people could give me some advice or thoughts on my horses problem.
4 days ago i got my horse in from the field and started to bandage him but noticed he was shivering alot in his one leg, he's got alot of scar tissue in lower leg from blowing his tendon twice, i thought maybe he was just cold but when i got home i thought about it some more and it was only that leg he was shivering on. i then put it down to him being scared outside his stable. he does have a bit of a phobia of going into the barn but is happy once in his stable.
he was doing it again today though and the farrier thought it might have been nerves or even him putting more weight on it (front leg was being shod) but he didn't stop shivering afterwards.

i'm not sure what it is as not seen him like that before and will speak to the vet tomorrow for a better idea but in the mean time any ideas?
just to say he's happy and well in himself (besides the usual problems!)

he's an old man now, 20yrs old. he does have arthritis and many other issues but like i said it's never happened before and was quite an obvious shake.

Okay. It's just that I had a 27 yr old TB do this too. Just the one leg and it went on for a number of days. I wondered if it was a trapped nerve initially but it wasn't. Has your horse been recently vaccinated?

nope no vaccinations or anything recently. he had lymphangitis (3rd time in as many years) 9 weeks ago and was given massive doses of steroids and anti B's for 2 days then a 10 day course of anti b's. other than that there's been nothing else different.

it was so noticeable that even my young children noticed, it was shaking when he was walking too but not as noticeable.

My mare had this in her hind legs recently, it went on for a couple of days and I started to panic that she had wobblers syndrome or something awful. She only did it when I was picking her feet out or if she was resting a leg. Thankfully it stopped after a couple of days and I put it down to the fact that she had double barreled a fence just before it started. Touch wood there have been no problems since!

it's his hind leg, most of the time he's not resting it but sometimes he will. trouble is he's nearly always resting that hind leg anyway.
weight wise he's in good condition, the vet saw him last week (was seeing another horse on the yard) and said that he's looking just right.

yeah it's been freezing cold this last month or so. pretty sure he hasn't banged it but obviously that's not to say he definately hasn't.
it's just odd that it's in that one leg which he already has a build up of scar tissue, never bothered him before (with shaking) but he does have an odd gait because of the previous damage although not in pain.

Well I know my own scars tingle and throb a bit in the cold weather so maybe it's just that. I'd just keep an eye on him (as you are doing) and note any changes which you can mention to your vet next time he's visiting.
