Shall I buy this horsebox?

M reg renault master. Paintwork tidy, a little rust on the inside of passanger door. 207,000 miles was an ambulance. No PAS, diesel.
Horse area tidy and well kept. 5 months MOT 1 month TAX priced £6000?

Is the milage a problem?

sounds expensive to me for what it is? but I'm not a NB expert

There are many of these coverted old vans on the market following the changes with the driver licensing. This is about 16 years old, over 200k miles, no p.a.s. & only has 5 months MOT. I think it's over priced & even more so with such a short MOT. I wouldn't consider it unless it had 12 months MOT put on it by the seller. I'd also want it examined by an auto engineer ton see if there are any problems which are about to occur with the box.

If this was a 16 year old car with only 5 months MOT & over 200k mile on the clock would you be prepared to buy it for £6k?

What's the payload?

I think it's over priced especially with only 5months MOT and 1 month tax.

Do you know how much it'll cost to plate in 5 months time? An impossible question to answer but you need to be prepared to put quite a bit of money to one side to cover any surprises for that.

Plus no power steering, hope you've got good muscles

I'm sure your dad will do his homework with the payload and researching how much similar lorries are selling for.

I'm afraid I still think it's over priced though.

For that money you could get a decent trailer and 4x4, which would cost you a lot less to maintain. I wouldn't be too concerned about the mileage if it has been well maintained, but it is at the end of its useful life in reality. Def insist on a year's MOT, and check your weights carefully. Sounds expensive, but I have no idea what these things cost.

Think it will be one of the old square renaults they are truely nasty, rot and are horrid to work on IMHO I would run a mile.
think you could do better with your 6k on something else

The newer shape masters are ok !!! you will also find the old ones are heavy so make sure you get it on weighbridge before you part with any cash be carefull.. spending a little more could get you something a lot better...

Speaking from personal experience- we have had exactly the same model of box for 3 years and it has been fantastic. The body work is still good and it has never let me down (we use it at least once a week). As far as payload goes ours is 1.3 tons. As far as working on the engine, the models of renault master up to R reg are easier to work on than the later ones as the engines are more 'user friendly'. I am sadly having to sell mine as we now have 2 middleweights and so are now overweight. I would recommend my box to anyone- everyone on the yard says 'I'd love a little box as reliable as that'.

i work for the ambulance service and the vehicles work very hard! They are maintained to a high standard but what some of them have been through would make your hair curl!!
