my friend who has a yard just along the road from me has a norwegian fjord pony but contrary to the breed standard it has very little bone below knee, however it also has very shallow feet, sole very near ground even with shoes on and as a result has hoof punctures and at mo is on box rest coz of fractured pedal bone! the vet ays it has to lose 100 kilos in weight too!anyway she was wondering what she can do to protect her sole when she is able to start riding again? I thought heart-bar shoes, gel pad or even horse boots has anyone else got suggestions?

i said I would ask on H&H forum for her.

thankyou- in advance

Personally I'd go with the horse boots! My mare had concussion in her feet which made them very sore and she wore these for a while which helped her loads :)

Also bumping for any one else with suggestions??

Lack of concavity in the feet is a classic sign of lami, and if the pony is 100kg overweight, it's probably got LGL constantly. :(

Get the weight off, treat it like a strict laminitic (i.e sort out it's diet), get it's shoes off and well trimmed them work it regularly in hoof boots and it'll sort itself out fairly quickly.
