Last week Ronnie was working better than ever, he's just been going so well, taking everything on board.

Practising canter poles, and in the end, out of pure impatience with changing the rein constantly through trot, I thought I'd just TRY asking for a flying change. Bearing in mind this horse will happily canter of his own accord in the field on the wrong leg round circles I didn't think I'd have any joy.

So, I'm heading across the long diagonal in canter, half-halting until I can feel both back legs under and springy, then as we come up to the corner I simply and quietly asked him to change - AND HE DID!

I did it four times (twice each way) across the long diagonals and he changed every time. Bless him. I called it a day at that point. I didn't think I'd remember the feel of asking for a flying change, but it just came automatically even though it's been 3 or 4 years.

Unfortunately this week we've stepped back 13 months to when he can't even remember how to work through...but hey ho, one step forwards two back - at least I know that he can do these things. I had been going to ask my instructor to teach him flying changes.

Woohoo! A chunk of dairy milk and a slurp of coke for anyone who got this far.

Doh you just missed the Marks & Spencers van or I could have got you some chocolate cake!

Thank you - not well done me though, well done Ronnie. He's not as stupid as he looks

Thank you! Hmm sounds like you and I will be practising them a lot then! I daren't let him forget how to do them as heaven knows how to teach them!
