As the title really. Can anyone recommend a good shampoo to use on our palominos tail, we think we might have found a girl to take her in some veteran classes but her tail is very grubby at the moment. I can remember using a bluebag on my grey pony many moons ago, used to bring him up beautifully, is there anything similar nowadays?

first wash with soap flakes, gets rid of a lot of the muck. rinse. next wash with lots of tesco value shampoo, gets rid of the rest of the filth. Then do a final rinse with equine blue (do a search on google for their website, you can order it from them, and it works out cheaper than the stuff that other companies do)

whatever you do, dont buy any expensive shampoo for white horses, its rubbish.

Fairy liquid (it contains a mild bleach), put on thickly and leave in for a good 10 minutes.

Makes my boys tail come up nice and white!

QuicSilver, trust me I have tried everything. I have a grey and I always always get comments about how clean he is. I have bought it from KM Elite in the past, a big bottle lasts me about a year and I bath competely every time I go out so about twice a month.

Thank you everybody. Don't know which to choose now

I like the sound of the equine blue, it seems to be modelled on the old blue bags. Didn't like the bit in their write up about grandmothers using them tho! And quicsilver sounds good value. Not sure if I will be able to get mail order before next weekend so might try the persil/daz route first.

I looked at the first pic and didn't see that you had typed normally - have to admit I thought well I wouldn't call that a very white tail

But it certainly is white in the second pic, would be delighted if could get hers like that. Now just have to start trying to pull her mane, bit at a time as she hates it. Think will have to plait her mane as can't really pass her off as native but will leave her tail cos it is very pretty and hopefully after all these tips will be very white.

It's a cr*p photo as Ali wouldn't stand still whilst my Father was trying to take a decent photo of us, but you get the idea...
