Have spent a lot of the summer dousing Red's dock in neem oil- I don't know if this is a normal occurrence, but it's made his tail more like dreadlocks!!

Can anybody recommend me a good shampoo (human or equine!) that will break the oil down in his tail? It's obviously not just the oil.. the tail is a fetching shade of brown underneath, but once the poo is out, the hair is still matted!

Have washed it several times over the last couple of weeks, but there are still lumpy bits that I can't seem to get rid of. I haven't brushed it much, admittedly, but for fear of tearing it all out!

Advice appreciated! If it's simply a case of elbow grease, I'll happily do it! But I don't want to wash it too often as it'll dry the skin out (am thinking that might aggravate the sweet itch?)

Fairy liquid as a one off? " Now hands that do dishes can be as soft as your face with mild green fairy liquid"!

Have you done in with warm water too or just cold as the warm would help to break down the oil too?

Whal Dirty Beastie and Supreme Products high shine shampoo are both good for removing residue

Failing that use washing up liquid as a one off but rinse thoroughly and use conditioner!

I wash oil residue out of my sweet itch pony's mane and tail every week - 10 days, i find that bathing him often means he is less itchy
