Hello.

I am getting a horse on share/ part loan and want to take out Rider Insurance for myself just in case!

can anyone recommend an insurance company that is competitively priced but will also pay out if something goes wrong!!

thank you

I have rider only insurance with pet plan, seems like a comprehensive policy. Horse is also insured through them they have always been good at paying out for her.

I have a share horse and use BHS Gold membership - £60 for a year. I'd rather my money was going to a charity than some hideous company.

I've read online that sometimes the money trading hands involved in shares/loans can invalidate some rider only insurance plans, so worth looking out for that.

Depends what you need cover for, if its more than just public liability look at pet plan or nfu Both cover personal accident, injury to the horse and tack.

Be careful if you are exchanging money (ie what most sharers do) as a lot of insurances don't cover for that. I specifically asked the question of many companies before I got my insurance... When I asked the BHS insurance underwriters (?SIEB) they told me that they would NOT cover if money changed hands :(

I am currently with Petplan's Rider insurance, and luckily have never needed to make a claim, so cannot comment on that bit. The horse is also separately insured by their owner.

BHS gold doesn't cover you if money exchanges hands with the owner, just to let those of you know! It's the reason why I didn't continue with my membership.
