My welsh d is my second baby to bring on and back. He turned 3 this year. Been waiting a long time to start him, hoping he will chunk up and grow a bit more yet, future plans are showing and dressage.
Just picked up the long reining again this summer, hes had a "eureeka" moment and suddenley mastered long reining, hes good on voice commands but we had a few hiccups getting started where he would just stand there not doing anything! Much more responsive today ;-)
Will continue with the sessions a few times a week and introduce some road work inhand soon. However the actual backing and riding away will be re-assesed toward autumn as he doesnt look ready yet. He seems to be a slow to mature type. Suddenley he has started to put weight on again and his bum has shot past his withers, so all good.
He seems to enjoy his little sessions and has started waiting at ghe gate for me now too.
