Hi

I want to get a sharer for my daughters 13.1 pony, I know a lot of adults share horses / ponies but would you pay for you child to share someone elses pony? Just trying to gauge if I'll even get any response.

Also I have never written an add before and am not particularly horsey myself can some one help me write an add. The pony is offered for up to 3 days a week.

I wasn't going to charge at all, just need a break from chores really, but someone else said to charge a token amout i.e £10 pw, so you don't end up with some one who just wants a free ride.

So any words of wisdom? Also could an adult ride a 13.1 arab x, he's not chunky but not the finest of ponies either iykwim?

Thanks

if i didn't have my own horses then i would be happy to pay for my kids to share a pony. they can learn so much from sharing.
there will be someone out there looking for this kind of arrangement and will be happy to do it, also maybe the children could form a new friendship which is also a bonus!

as for the size, yes an adult could ride your pony but obviously they would have to be a small adult (height and weight).

with your advert if you explain his breeding/height/age and also what he can do and if he's a lead rein/novice/second pony type character, that way then you should attract the correct people whether it be adult or child.
i know my sharer would love to share another pony, she's tiny and rides my tribe!

Nothing particularly wrong with someone wanting a free ride, but actually I think in the case of a kids pony it is probably a good idea as it is more likely the parents will pay and a small amount of money will encourage a more serious commitment.

I'm sure you will get plenty of interest; loads of children and indeed their parents would love the opportunity to share a pony without committing fulltime to the costs and workload.

If you put some info about the pony [any comp record, what chores involved, opportunity to compete, which days, good to hack, catch, novice ride, does it jump - and how high - etc] I will happily help you put it into an ad!

Hi

Thanks for your help

He's 20, doesn't have a comp record, he's just your bog standard kids pony, well schooled according to the professionals, hacks alone, good to do, my daughter can muck out with him in the stable and he's fine. Can jump well over a metre, with the right rider.

He's available Sunday, Monday and Fridays, although this isn't set in stone, these can be changed. I can see to him everyday but would like the sharer to do the yard duties on a Sunday i.e mucking out feeding etc.

What else? You can tell I'm no good at this sort of thing.

I'd go with something like this:

Fantastic 13.1hh pony available for share, up to 3 days per week including one weekend day. Suitable for all PC activities, hacks alone and in company, well schooled and loves to jump. Safe and easy to do in all ways, and ideal for a child taking the next step from riding school education. Some yard duties and a small contribution of £10 p/w required.

No problem!

Forgot to say, including your location is a good idea particularly if you're advertising on the internet - just the most local town or village.

If it helps, here is my ad:

I am looking for a sharer for my 14.2 dun connemara x gelding. He has competed in BSJA and British Eventing with me in the past but has spent the last year on full loan to a lovely home doing all pony club activities. He is a fantastic hack and well schooled, easy to do but with a real cheeky character!
Kept near Burghfield, Berks at a yard with fantastic facilities. There are 3 schools onsite, a XC course and off road hacking round farmland. Yard is sometimes used for pony club so I would be happy for the sharer to take part in PC activities with him, and also compete. He is the perfect fun allrounder for a teenager.

I am looking for someone who will help ride and look after him 3 times a week. Financial contribution required.

So obviously just adapt the details for your pony! Just need to put a little about pony, a little about what he can do/be used for, the type of facilities available and location of yard, who he would be suitable for, and then what you are looking for with chores/contribution. Good piccie too if advertising online.

Where are you planning to advertise?

Try putting a little

Thank you Susie, so far I have only advertised him at the yard, it is a riding school too with lots of kids so was kind of hoping someone would fall into my lap.

Fingers crossed

If not where would you recommend?

If it's a RS then the rules may be different, but at other yards I would also put on the ad that children under 16 need to be supervised at all times.

sounds ideal you should be able to find someone there hopefully! Otherwise I would pop a card up in local tack shops and maybe try a few free/cheap sites. Freeads and adtrader have horsey sections, and try preloved and equineadverts. Word of mouth is very useful, and perhaps a local pony club may know of someone?

Good luck!!
