Hi

I am looking for a sharer I have found someone who is interested but do I have to have any insurance to cover myself if they fall off and hurt themselves?

Thanks
Amanda

In the older days you wouldn't, but these days it seems that you just can't predict people. I hate all this blame culture, and it seems that now we all have to cover our backs!

The people at NFU are very nice and are usually are one of the cheapest 'equestrian' insurers.

I make them sign a contract, one thing on there is they accept responsibility for any accident (they responsibilty to check tack they use and realise horses are animals etc etc). But I do also ask that they take out there own personal accident cover, for example BHS Gold Membership.

My horse is insured for vets fees by me.

as a sharer nfu wouldnt insure me as there was an exchange of money - they said try the bhs who said there insurance wasnt suitable either

You could suggest they get a BHS Gold membership, which will cover them for public liability insurance and personal insurance up to £15 K.

I would have thought they should take their own responsibility, however, I guess you can't be too careful. If your insurance includes public liability then perhaps it willcover you? (damage to others)

Ok, I will probably advise that they get their own insurance. I will problem get them to sign a contract also to say they are responsible if they get hurt. Thanks

I always advised mine to get their own insurance. I usually pointed them in the direction of the BHS gold membership. I also had a disclaimer in the share agreement too (basically saying that I was not responsible!)
