I've got a 15.1hh TB mare who is not currently in work. I rescued her 3 years ago and she is more like a pet than anything else. Problem is I'm struggling financially at the moment so I've been thinking about getting a sharer for her.

She would need to be brought slowly back into work and she can be quite quirky. She is really only suitable as a light hack - so someone who wants to hack out would be fine - the hacking in our area is really nice - lots of off road.

She is very safe on the roads -she just needs a rider that isn't nervy - ie if she spooks at something or gets a bit quick and you pull her in the mouth it makes her worse - you need to sit and let her get on with it and she's fine. I've had her working previously and done some decent hacking on her - when she's in full work she's actually a fun little horse.

I don't mind if the person hasn't got loads of riding experience, and I don't mind if they don't have any yard experience. I am happy to teach them stable management and if they want to help on the yard they can, if they don't want to they don't have to.

I was thinking £20 a week, maybe plus shoes? She is done every 7 weeks, fronts only. What do you think? Would anyone be interested in this? She's not a competition horse, but she could be a fun little hack for the right person.

Aww thanks

I hope so, she's a really sweet little mare.

How many days a week are you thinking of sharing her out for? For £20 I'd probably want at least 3 days, but from a sharer's point of view I'd also want to pay 1 amount of money per month, not £X + £X for shoes. So maybe think about adding it into eachother so that they sharer only has to think about putting one lot of money away each month, rather than the share money and then also the shoe money every 7 weeks.

Also would have a contract stating that the horse is strictly for hacking only.

I'd be happy for them to have sole use - as many days as they wanted. If they could only do x amount of days I would be happy to exercise her on other days, if they wanted to do 6 days that would be fine. Also if they wanted to do yard duties they could, if not I wouldn't mind doing it myself.

TBH she doesn't jump, but if they got on really well with her and got her jumping I'd be happy with that. I just couldn't say to them 'you can share this horse and she will jump/compete etc'

I do think you'd have to vet the person really carefully - get references if possible - as she's a delicate soul sometimes isn't she?
Also, maybe don't advertise her as suitable for someone without much experience as you might get all sorts of numpties turning up

But she's so lovely, I think it sounds like a great idea, espesh if you can find someone to pamper her

Hi Bex, I think the persons personality is prob more important than their experience. If they are calm and patient and kind they could do really well with her, regardless of how much riding they've done (although would need to know basic principles).

Or maybe I'm being naive? not sure!

she sounds really good, start with schooling and build up the trust then hacking and jumping. id be interested depending on where it was
