It's tough because there are people beyond 'riding school' standard but with limited time during the week who still want to share. I always check out the share adverts but have never replied for two reasons - I was put off by the last owner I shared with, plus I don't want to be a timewaster. Just put as much detail in the advert as possible.
Froma sharer's point of view, there are certain things I require from the yard facilities/owner that would be deal breakers if they weren't in place, but the season makes no odds.
When I was searching for a share, one of the most vital bits of information often missing from the ad was the location of the yard the horse was stabled at. As a learner driver I was depending on public transport, and the other half, to take me. I felt like I was wasting peoples time by replying to the ad having to ask location details. Even a postcode would have helped, rather than a town name.It took me three month but I'm ecstatic to say I've found the perfect share, not just the fantastic horse, but the lovely owner, yard and location, and the majority of the people there are great, friendly and willing to ride out with me until i find my bearings. Winter does not put me off at all because i am serious, the cold weather makes me look forward to summer even more
Wouldn't think the time of year would out people off - I started sharing all my previous horses in winter, used to go up in the evenings to ride in the pouring rain but this never put me off!
The fact your mare can only do hacking at the moment may put people off who work 9 - 5 and can only ride in the evenings when it's dark or at weekends, and I know some people prefer to keep the horse to themselves durin the weekends. Hope you find someone suitable soon, I'm sure there's a mum whose kids are starting school and looking to get back in the saddle
