Sharers that would hack alone - no manege

Come April I would like to look for a long term reliable sharer for my pony due to my work commitments. As I have the pony at home with no local manege available, I wonder if it will be difficult to find people that are confident and happy to hack alone? Have other people found this an issue?
 
I don't have a sharer, but I used to be a sharer.
I've shared numerous horses over the years and all of them I've hacked out alone. Even the super nappy 2 I had!!

I think if your horse is easy hacking alone, then you won't have any trouble at all.
It would be nice though if there'd be the chance to hack out with other people occasionally too?

Unfortunately I live in a little hamlet and have even advertised on Facebook to see if there is anyone within hacking distance I could meet and ride with and got no replies :( I'd so love a hacking buddy! As a result pony has got pretty good hacking alone!

I feel your pain :P I keep my horse at a livery yard but the women there don't really ride and never when I do (the weekends and after work)...so forever alone also! Haha. But oh well, as you say, it soon teaches your pony to be good alone aha
 
I'm a sharer and hack out alone 99% of the time. I love it and is the reason why I looked for a share since I could hack out in a group from my local riding school. I'm definitely not a super confident rider but love being able to go at my own pace and talk to the horse without looking like a crazy person. The people on the yard I share on very rarely ride but I could and sometimes do arrange to ride with them so I suppose some people may like having that option. Would not put me off at all having no-one to ride with though. When I shared a more difficult horse previously I still hacked alone but sometimes got a friend to walk out with me at first for some support. If your horse is straightforward out alone then I doubt you will have a problem.
 
There are plenty of people out there like me that would jump at the chance. Even on a yard, I mostly hack out alone as my idea of a quiet hack doesn't match theirs (I don't go in for pushing an unfit horse too hard).

Know what you mean, I too like that I can choose my own pace when on my own. I do miss having a good natter with someone sometimes though!
 
I have not hacked out with anyone for years. Only see other horses and riders if I go hunting or fun rides. Had a couple of hacking buddies in the past but they moved away.
I recon there are people who would hack alone as sharers, but probably best if they really got to know the horse first. Maybe riding in a field or something if you can?
I have contemplated finding someone to ride my pony in the past when I'm on holiday etc, but as it is 100% solo hacking (and mostly road), I'm not sure I could trust someone I don't know, just incase something went wrong, because I know my pony will not wait if you fall off! I have only come off once out hacking and I kept hold of the reins, but I let someone else have a go on her once and they came off and she galloped 3 miles away across roads and not in any logical direction! I have since been put off the idea of other people riding her lol
 
I am a sharer and hack alone all the time, I ride a 5 year old who requires a confident rider for hacking solo. I find schooling stressful and hacking with other people from the yard can be restrictive due to time and preferences in route/speed etc. I sometimes go on a hack with someone else, but sharing a horse where this wasn't even an option would not put me off. So I wouldn't say it is impossible to find someone.....but it may take a while for you to find the right person that you would trust to go out on your horse alone.

oh dear! I've come off her twice and the first time she was quite shocked by it and forgot to move afterwards so that was fine, the last time she ran home but we were only just round the corner! So I don't really know what she would do if further away from home, I hope not to find out as I find all that rather stressful!

Thanks. As a sharer, How have owners assessed you in the past? Watch you in a manege etc? I'm not sure how I would satisfy myself on their suitability. I could walk out with them on a short hack etc...
 
I ve shared and only had solo hacking, didn't put me off at all.
I think in terms of assessing suitability a lot you'll hopefully get from chatting with them. I d suggest walking out with them a couple of times after they have had an initial ride (which will hopefully include somewhere they can walk, trot,canter) walk out with them on some of the ' bad' routes. So sharer gets an idea of what horse will do, and you can be there to. After that I d Just try to be around the yard so they know they can call you if they have any problems.
 
I've advertised my mare for share, and had no real interest despite having great facilities :-/ maybe you would have a better chance in summer?

I've not even mentioned any financial contribution.

Although to be fair my mare can difficult to hack out alone, as she is spooky, she will go, when I make her, but generally lacks confidence, although she's a fantastic jumper and can school beautifully.
