Ive been thinking of part loaning/sharing my pony for a while now. Someone who was looking for livery came down the other day and after a chat said they would bring their daughter to ride him. I was a bit apprehensive as i was wanting someone experienced, something she isnt. Anyway they have rode him twice now and i just dont feel happy about it, gut instinct says its not right, i feel bad on the girl as she really likes him but i have to do whats right for my pony.

Anyway, my pony really needs an experienced lightweight adult to bring his potential out as he clearly just isnt a kids pony. Do you think adults would be happy to share a 14.2 though when they could have a horse? He goes so well for someone experienced i just desperately dont want him getting sour with a novice, just dont know if im doing the right thing!

He's your horse do what you think is best!!!

I should think most adults would be fine with a 14.2, why don't you stick an advert up for him and see what you get? I'm sure the girl won't be too disappointed, especially if you tell her now.

If you don't want this child riding your pony then say so. I wouldn't worry about adults wanting to share a 14.2hh. Burtie used to do dressage on my 14.2 Arab and he was also ridden by another adult friend. That friend now shares a 12.3hh pony (and she's 5ft 8!!!) Stick to your guns as you don't want your pony spoilt, there will be the right person out there somewhere.

Thanks for the replies. Jack is a character and i know him well and know what works best for him. He spent sometime at a riding school and it has had some lasting effect on his attitude to work and the minute someone in-experienced gets on him and rides (dont want to sound horrble here) novicey on him, he literally switches off and he wont budge. If someone kicks, he just stops, he is just so dead to your leg. He floats along (all be it after warming up) with an experinced rider and i just think that more harm than good would become of it if he fell into the wrong hands again! He is a conny x and is quite capable of carrying an adult.

Small adults love ponies, I am only 5.2 and have two 17hh and have got a little arab which will only make 14.2 and I cant wait. Its a refreshing change to ride ponies after big horses and lots of fun.

I am sure if you ask around or advertise you will find the person you are looking for.

Well he is a fun pony! Hes just a right character and one that just goes better for an experienced person! Im sure there will be someone out there who would like him even though he is only a 14.2, as i said hes quite sturdy so can carry a small adult with ease.

I am only 5'2 and would happily share a 14.2 especially something whcih has the potential to go on.

I think there are lots of adults around like me.

I feel bad on the girl as she really likes him and shes fine grooming him etc im just concerend that if he ends up with yet another in-experienced person, he will just hate work again. Its like her friend came with her, and in walk he always drops his head really nice and light, but then it kept going and going till his head was virtually on the floor! The friend then said she could do with a whip just to give him a tap when he does that. I just stood there in shock and told her the only reason he was doing that was because she was letting him by holidng his reins so long!
