I have a new arrival, and I know you guys will share the excitement, as most of my family/friends will just think I’m bonkers!

This lovely lady joined the family on Sunday - she’s rising 3, 3/4 ID, 1/4 cob called Silver Satin. About 15.2, to make around 16hh, maybe a little more.

I’d been keeping an eye out for a little while for a chunky, decent sized allrounder type, partly for me as I’ve started to get back into actually riding rather than just being the support act for youngest child, and partly with the long view of knowing he will end up 6ft+, and so 15hh little Penny once she’s backed will only be the next step on his journey!

As usual, I wasn’t overly planning to get another baby, but there was something about her, and it was enough to make the 6 hour round trip to see her. In many ways it feels right, she’s the same age as Penny so will have a playmate once they’re all in together, and I’m in no rush with either of them. And she’s an absolute sweetheart, seems like an old head on young shoulders, very sensible, and more than happy to be handled by the 10-year-old child.

In fact, I think I’ve lost her already - they seem smitten with each other! ?

Ah she is lovely, congratulations! I wish you many long, happy and vet-bill free years with her :)

Oh golly, after this year with the little Welshie, plus two heartbreaking losses, I really hope so!

Much as your new horse is stunning I'm struggling to get past the fact that your 10 year old is likely taller than me already ?

He’s 5’1, and about to have another growth spurt I suspect. Don’t want him to grow too quickly, I’d love him to have another couple of summers of fun with the 13.2 after this year was a complete write off!

Beautiful horse OP - do you think she'll grey out as she gets older?

I’d love her to dapple, although not sure if she will. I’m assuming she’ll grey out though - I’m bracing myself already for the baths… the white legs on the Welshies are bad enough!

About the same as me then for now, sending good wishes for some pony fun for the short term and enviable dressage legs for the future ?

If it helps my 12 year old son was riding his 13.2 until June this year, and he was about 5'6 then. Hopefully you'll get 2 more years!

New horse is utterly lovely and I am jealous. Good luck with her.

Shes already grey. She will just get progressively lighter over time, probably gong dapple and flea bitten on the way to white.
Very true - I’m just curious to see how quickly she goes light, and what she goes through on the way! We previously had a blue roan who changed colour with the seasons, everything from almost white to really dark steel blue, it was fascinating see (and used to really confuse non-horsey friends who wouldn’t believe it was the same mare ?)
