Sharing

Its £15.00 a week plus cost of front shoes but they've not got back to me. Doesnt look like I'll get a horse to share as theres nothing else around here.

My old sharer paid £50 for Ed, a month - she then additionally bought him other bits and bobs as she wanted to, but nothing else was actually specified.

What do front shoes cost near you? For me that'd be roughly £30, so that'd very roughly be £21 a week so £84 a month approx...

Depends on why you are sharing tbh - if for long term, I don't think there's much wrong with that - if for time to save for your own horse, don't think you'd save much with that monthly outgoing, so would look for cheaper.

when i had a sharer and my horse was shod we went halves on shoes, that was all she had to pay, there was no other weekly or monthly fee:) now i'm looking for a sharer again and have said that as they are barefoot and cope with the work i give them, if they need shoes i would expect the sharer to foot the bill, again no other costs involved for them, just riding:)

Loads of people have different arrangements, plenty of people share for free, and some even split the bills 50/50. I pay some money towards my share owners bills, but i'm looking for a new share now, which I wont be able to afford to contribute too, which rules out alot of adverts i've seen which are otherwise perfect.

ETA - my point is, it might be that the perfect person is out there and they are ruled out because of the money, so if money is not your main reason for sharing, be flexible.

I thought it seemed a bit steep but then there arent any other sharer adverts around here. Id even just look to ride a horse but there arent any. Unless I put an ad up in local feed store. I dont want a nutty horse just something I can enjoy hacking on.

To me thats really cheap :)

but thats probably because I pay around £600 a month which is his half of his livery bill, half shoeing, half sedation for clipping, half clipping charge, half vet/dentist, half shavings, half supplements and half of anything else added onto his bill

£600 a month for a share!!! I hope you are on full livery at that yard Enfys posted about for that much money! When I was on full livery (including feed and shavings etc) it cost £320 a month just for me and that's in London!

When I had a sharer I charged her a flat rate of £25 a week for three days (2 weekdays and 1 weekend day) and that included me coming up to supervise/help out as she was only 11. She was allowed to go to shows as long as she paid entries/transport and pony club and lessons were an extra cost. I encouraged her to do them but at the end of the day it was up to her and her parents whether they wanted her to or not. I paid any costs for the horse like shoes, vet, dentist, clipping etc and I decided what clip, when to call the vet/farrier and so on.

I had a adult sharer for a few months, she didn't pay anything for 3 days riding. I only wanted someone to ride him as he's the type that needs constant work and I wanted to do non horsey stuff with the family over the summer. To me a sharer is doing me a favour but I understand that not everyone is my position money wise to be able to afford full costs x

Yes it is full livery and its in North London too.

The yard though is absolute luxury 2 indoor schools, 2 outdoor schools (one has recently been resurfaced with a martin collins surface :D), horse walker, club room, a seperate livery club room has just been built!, cross country course, off road hacking. :)

My only complaint is that the jumps are not spooky enough, we could do with some fillers/planks so we don't have dirty stops at shows because the pig fillers are going to ''eat'' him ;)

On our yard it varies greatly, one woman has £100 a month plus full shoes (£70 every 6 weeks) for 2 days a week. Mine was free until I decided I no longer wanted a sharer and others are just shoes for 2 weekdays a week :)
