Shavings and Rubber Matting

How many shavings do you use with rubber matting? Do you still have a full bed or just a scattering on the floor?

I have a full bed but not covering the whole floor, some do just use a sprinkling to soak up the wee. Personal preference i think!

I have a full bed! Found I was using more bales a week with less and also couldn't bear the state of their rugs! Like it nice and cosy for them! Prob too soft!

I have banks and deep bed but leave front of stable clear.

Hi ya, i too have rubber matting & use shavings, my mare has a bed as she likes to lie down but it is not a deep bed if that makes any sense, i still do banks etc.

I know of some ppl who just use a sprinkling to soak up the wee etc, think its what ever works for both you & your horse

We tried it with a sprinkling of shavings and the bed looked awful, so added another bale and made the bed 2-3" thick and it still looked horrible and horse didn't lie down on it

So he's now on straw and rubber mats and much happier, lies down most nights and the bed isn't half as dirty as it was with shavings.

I use mats and a decent bed, not masses, there is probably 2/3 bales maintained when she is in overnight, which she currently is as the fields are horrendous due to this weather!

I've put a bale of shavings down to form a base and have straw over the top. So far, have only used the one bales of shavings this month which is absolutely incredible for me.

I use a decent size bed but it doesnt take up the whole stable. Enough for her to lie down on. I try to deeplitter during the week so its quicker then muck out fully at weekends.

Mats cover the front third, deep litter shavings bed over the back two thirds. Works a treat. New shavings about every 5 or 6 days if you feel generous, weekly otherwise.
