Shavings rant!

Does anyone else have this same problem?

Just went to get shavings and the bags were much smaller, more dustier, less packed yet the same price!

Why do they have to change supplier!!?!!

I used to but I now know someone who sells the snowflake shavings, you get loads in them! They are a nightmare to break up though.

yep we moved onto cardboard bedding - much cheaper and no dust !!

It is this variation in quality that drove me to use chopped rape straw bedding, handles in the same way but completely dust free - I would never go back to shavings now.

shavings are more hastle then they are worth lol hence why i have bitten the bullet and put mine on straw ....give him a net of haylage and he doesnt touch a single bit

Because of restrictions of a local supplier only so many bales per vehicle, and another supplier quality changing and a couple of other reasons we have changed onto Hemcore bedding and wouldnt change back for anything much much better

Ill be moving onto livery in about three weeks and where i am i can only have shavings due to muck heap restrictions!

I think i may invest in some Snowflake bales, the cheaper ones are just false economy as they dont go anywhere to make her bed look even half decent!

You may find that your yard will also accept chopped straw or hemp, it handles in the same way as shavings, and creates and equally small muck heap, but rots down quicker.

would they mix in well together?

we use shredded cardboard for the pony and its brilliant. He used to have a really bad cough and it really helped.

I'm a fan of the woodpecker shavings, v expensive but bales seem really heavy & go a long way!
Our supplier sometimes only has 'scottish shavings' which are absolutley naff!

yes you can mix them together

mine used to be on shavings until i got a a few bales which were literally sawdust. put them all back on straw after that.
