What are the pros and cons of the above?

Blue is quite clean on straw, poos and wees in one place and doesn't churn his bed up.

Ellie on the other hand is filthy. Her bed is a total mess every morning and I have never seen a horse wee as much as she does

I was wondering if shavings would be any good, would it save me time as I would be able to see the wet patches etc?

Straw is so much cheaper than shavings, but what my friend does for her messy one is put a shavings base down then a straw bed on top, that soaks up all the wee and doesn't get as messy.

I switched from straw to shavings as Jake was filthy on straw, wow made a huge difference. I only use hunter shavings tho they are awesome!

I switched from straw to Wood pellets with my unbelievably messy gelding - soo much quicker, mats still dry rather than soaking wet and much nicer smelling!!

Shavings wise.. our local mole valley have just started stocking a new make of shavings, and oh my god they are amazing! last twice as long as any other ive used before, and are only £5.80 a bag! Result!

Tote was really messy on straw and he used to eat it too so we swapped to shavings and he is a lot better on it. On our yard shavings are only £2 for a big bag so its cheaper than straw too

I use Aquamax and its brilliant! Straw was a no no, tried shavings... and my mare seems to mush everything together including her hay! so with shavings so much got wasted because of sticking to the hay etc. Aquamax absorbes a LOT and I get less than a barrow out a day (including the contents of her haybar that shes mixed in with it all!)
