Shavings vs Wood Pellets

Personally pellets definitely.

I can muck out 4 horses in 30 mins (albeit they don't plough it in much) - lift out poos, one scoop of wet and done.

I hardly throw any bedding away saving time and money and keeping muck heap smaller.

They do go dusty in the summer when stables are rarely used.

I use both but I just put the pellets where they wee then I have a thick shavings bed and only take the wet out every week or sometimes longer if they are not in much, it just keeps the shavings dry on top and it's so much easier to muck out and I use less shavings.
 
Pellets for me! They make a lovely stable bed that is absorbent and so easy to muck out. Takes up much less space to store and muck heap is smaller too. Doesn't smell. I am not sure on costs, as the price of wood pellets go up and down enormously, and I order a pallet at a time that is delivered and just stacks up in a corner and it lasts me over a year, so who knows what the price will be in 18 months time!
 
I use pellets with a thin layer of soft chip on top. Easy to muck out , take wet out once a week in winter when they’re in more.
 
Definitely pellets. They make such a good bed. But yes dusty in summer and they do go dark quite quickly.

I find shavings awful, they're not particularly absorbent, hard to separate if your horse mixes it in and bulky to handle . You'll notice they smell once you're used to wood pellets too.

If you've got a neat horse a layer of pellets under a layer of big wood chip is the best of both worlds.

I buy by the pallet from white horse energy, usually around £6 a bag.

I would love to see a photo of what a stable bed looks like with wood pellets? I’ve never seen them use yet ☺️
