I am trying to find a supplier of the bedding which is a combination of large shavings with chopped straw sprayed with a pine disinfectant to stop horses eating. Does anyone know what the trade name for this bedding is? Anyone know where I can buy in bulk and prices?

they do! we use it at college and at work, but i cant seem to find a number or website for a supplier

Have you tried buying chopped straw and shavings separatly and mixing them yourself in the stable? Just an idea? Was wondering if it might work our cheaper in the long run?

Thanks HarveysMummy. I emailed them but they told me they are too far away for us

I managed to find a source locally today of Excell. Got 1 to make sure it's what I wanted and everyone on my yard is so impressed that they all want to buy in bulk. Now I have to find a supplier for the south/sw of England!
Anyone no of one?

I guess I could do that, it's just a bit of a faff and requires mroe storage space- at the moment I have room for a bale of shavings outside my stable, but not really two bales (one chopped straw, one shavings), so would have to store at opposite end of stable block!

Do you find that having the mix is more absorbant than shavings on their own? I have rubber mats with an inch thick layer of shavings at the moment.

I use mats so what I do is to mix them both up and then put the excess at the sides - like big banks. We have a very wet clydie so I use about 3 - 4" deep bed. I find the mix is the best as chopped straw without shavings can be a bit wet and smelly on mats.

That said new clydie mare is going onto megazorb as I have a horrible feeling she is going to be very messy compared to the old gelding.

This could be a solution if I can't find bulk supplier. However, in the prepared version the shavings are much bigger than normal shavings. It's also cheaper to buy the prepared stuff down here as shavings are £6.90 and prepared bags are £6.50.
