it happens incredibly quickly in kids as well - one minute they have a sniffle, within 2-3 hours they can be gone. So sorry for your loss

I just can't believe it. Less than 12 hours from full of life. I haven't told my son yet.
He still gets upset about a dog we lost three years ago from old age.

So sorry of your loss - I lost a dog very suddenly and it does take time to heal. I took great comfort in the fact that mine appeared to have a happy life and that she didn't have to suffer any of the indignities of old age. Your son will heal too - time really does help. Thinking of you.

Thank you all for comments. I am truly in shock. My husband found her unwell after I went to work this morning. I never got to say goodbye. I simply don't believe she won't come home.

Im so sorry, when it happens quickly like this its all the more devastating, I lost a dog suddenly so can totally empathise with you, so many conflicting emotions but sometimes these things just happen very unexpectedly and thankfully are rare.

Thank you. And now of course awake worried about my other dogs. We don't know what strain yet so could be viral,or bacterial. It's going to take a while to get over. Such a huge personality in a tiny dog leaves an enormous hole. She should be here.

I'm so sorry, you can feel the shock of it all in your post.i lost a dog two years ago from a stroke..went for he walk and then she just died.shocking.in retrospect it was helpful to think she went fast and it helps me that she didn't have a long term illness.
I hope your other dogs are ok.what a worry.

So sorry for your loss and your suffering, but please try to find some comfort from the fact that everything happened very quickly for your dog. I know how I want my life to end when my time is up.....the quicker the better.

Thank you all. Trying still to put perspective on this. So hard but .. She never knew a moments pain. Was part of a pack. Much loved. Never once alone bar sitting in the car while I popped into the shop. She lived a good and happy life. She should have had much more but what she had was good. There are so very many who have not had even a fraction of what she had. I grieve for them too.

So sorry elsielouise. Its the worst thing about dog ownership. Whether we lose them young, old, suddenly or having to make 'that' decision. All we can do is give them the best possible life and in doing so they give us SO much pleasure. You just have to treasure the memories.
