She is fading away before my eyes..... an update!!

I last posted at the begining of Feb about my 29yo tb mare, I had some great ideas and suggestions from you all and even some feed sent through the post for her to try (Thank you Kerilli)

she loves those cubes and still does!!
All her blood tests came back clear and her teeth checked etc
So I changed her feed completely and with a bit of coaxing have gotten her to eat 2 feeds a day, who ever reccomended the Soft and Soak range Thank you!! She adores the ready mash extra and I make it with boiling water and she licks the bucket clean!! and woe betide me if I make it with cold water she kicks the bucket round in disgust!lol ive created a monster

I also started her on Pink Powder. She has gained weight and looks so much better we still have someway to go, but hopefully the spring grass will help.

I know the day will come when I have to say good bye, but I just didnt feel she was quite ready for that yet. I am hoping she will have a lovely spring and summer lazing in the field and I will see how she is come autumn.
Thanks once again I am so pleased with her progress so far...
Here is a picture of her please bare in mind she is 29 and just coming out of a very hard winter! (we had to move twice and she fractured her splint bone!)

Considering her age and the problems you have had over winter, i think she is looking good. well done

I didn't see the old thread, so apologies if this has been suggested, but I can't recommend Topspec senior enough. It has done magic for my old girl.

It is hard keeping weight on an older horse, we have to keep a close eye on our older mare, who decides she does'nt want to eat some days and is a fussy thing!
well done so far and she'l get even better once the spring grass is through.
 
Glad to hear that your mare is picking up again now. Going by the pics I think she's looking fab for her age especially considering what a rough winter she has had

Well done you!! It's great the way you are looking after this elderly girl, she looks happy enough to me, she's a very lucky horse to have such a caring owner. If only all horses were as lucky x
 
hi it was me who said try soft and soak i tried it with my oldie she loved it but saying that it does smell lush and hopefully with the spring grass that will help her along aswell. how much do you pay for the ready mash? i only live about 10 miles away from the mill!x
 
Good for her! All things considered that photo doesn't look too bad at all, and now you've found something yummy that she adores she love super in no time. Well done!

My friend's old pony (I think he is 39yo!) started going downhill about 4 years ago but they managed to find a food that he loved (soaked Spillers High Fibre cubes) and he looks great on it.
 
Lucky you living so close... My nearest supplier is 15miles away so i do a trip once a fortnight and buy 2 bags a time, I am using about a bag a week and paying £11.85 a bag. TBH its working and id pay double lol!! although my bank manager might complain lol she loves it and my cob does too, i usually give her a small taste of it ontop of her normal food and because it warm they love breakfast on a cold morning! How much do you pay? Thanks again

I am so pleased. Your gut feeling was 'it wasn't time' and that is great.

She looks bright as a button, and as you say spring is on it's way.

It is no good for old horses to be fat. Lean is far better for their ol bones.

I really am chuffed to see these photos. Well done you!!

I totally understand your worry. My boy is a tb of a similar age and it is an uphill struggle keeping weight on. Well done you! She's looking good x
 
She looks brilliant for her age! We also own a 24 year old but luckily his teeth are really good and he eats lots so he is keeping his weight quite well atm.
