i think i'm being paranoid, i keep worrying about poppy being out in the snow

i've checked her and she's perfectly happy. as u kno she's full highland, not been clipped, rugged , has lots of natural shelter and has plenty of fat to keep her warm lol!!

she will be ok won't she??

everyone has said she'd be fine. i was thinking to myself there are loadsa horses who live out in the snow isn't there, i think i'm just paranoid
 
Yes, she'll be fine. If she's not clipped she might be better without the rug to be honest. Their coats are designed for this weather, but rugging doesn't allow them to use them properly.

My natives used to wander around their field with an inch of snow on their ample rumps - just shows how good their coats are at insulating - the snow would have melted otherwise..........!
 
All my hairies are out totally naked. Don't worry, your Highland will be fine

Its wind and rain they don't like. Cold is no problem for horses..

Well then I'll be murdered by the RSPCA then because we have a blizzard outside just now and my Lusitano x TB is outside with a hunter clip! However, he does have 4 rugs on (2 full necks), access to a stable and loads of hay so Im pretty sure he'll survive! The 2 old ponies have the best time, they're up to the eyeballs in straw in the shelter loving it!

Stabled my two warmbloods tonight, usually live out with natural shelter, but not 'proper' shelter, Not stabled because of snow as such, just wanted one out of wet as he has had a few mud fever scabs this year and I want to be doubly sure it has cleared up, before exposing him to a lot of wet mud. Both horses were perfectly happy out, now both utterly miserable, one stood in corner with head down 'not speaking ' to me and other box walking. They would both love to be out now in mud and snow.

Well I wouldn't be too worried about your Highland because my naughty TB is out now in a blizzard with his other TB friend in the Highlands rugged upto the nines. We have recently moved field and they have a large field shelter which we have split into two and have bedded it down with straw and it looks so cosy but the buggers wont come in!!!!!!! We just decided to open it up and its their if they need it but they are toasty under their rugs and are grazing away likes its a summers night (weirdos haha)....
Highlands are amazing, hardy creatures, he will be just fine x
 
I had the same worry today about my 31 year old pony during a blizzard - she has a rug on though.
Went down to check tonight and she was as happy as larry munching on her hay, nice and cosy!
Still sometimes it doesnt stop you worrying about them!
