Hi,is anyone insured with shearwater insurance...they have given me a very competitive quote for my horse and just wondering if they are ok or not? Anyone had any dealings with them good or bad....thanking you in advance. xx

Yes, me! They insist on a veterinary treatment summary off your vet every year before they will put your horse on full cover, which has confused the hell out of my vet & created some major headaches for me :o They also messed me about badly when my old horse died. I got the mortality payout (which was only £1000) eventually after I wrote them a very stroppy letter but it was quite upsetting and really wasn't what I needed at the time. However they did sort it out in the end, which is something. I still insure with them on the basis that insurance companies are all b*****ds & better the devil you know

Have been with them for about 4 years now - sometimes good and sometimes not so good. My horse was kicked on the hock and ended up with a £2000 vets bill which they were good about, then it was found that he had a cracked tooth which they said that he could have had when I bought him so they wouldn't pay for the op. After my vet wrote them a letter saying that the tooth had to come out and that I couldn't afford it, they agreed to pay half (vets bill was £1500 this time). Last year I did wonder why I was still insuring with them as for my £300 I only get £3000 vets bill cover which is not a lot nowadays but as the previous person said the better the devil you know, plus I feel with the claims I've made it could be a lot of hassle changing to another company. Have to admit they are very pleasant and helpful on the phone though.

I've only had amazing dealings with them - both my horses are with them.
Over the years I've been with Pet Plan, NFU, Horse and Rider Insurance Direct; now with Shearwater.

I have a LOU TB. No one would insure him but they asked for his vet report and would fully insure him (just excluded his hock) for no more than I was paying pre-LOU.
They have paid out on every claim with no hassle and they covered 100% of the MRIs I needed.
They are also really friendly on the phone.
I asked my vet if they were an OK company and they said only positive dealings too.
