Yet another NFU defector, seeking alternative (and cheaper) insurance elsewhere.

Need to insure house & contents and attached small private DIY yard for public liability etc.

Shearwater have come up as being a good quote, and way the most competitive as regards price.

Just wondering if anyone on here has anything good (or bad) to say about them?

Opinions good or bad please, or pm me if prefer.

TIA

I've used them for about 7 years now. They paid out when I had a couple of large claims in the first year I had the horse, although they did refuse the tooth claim at first as they said it could have been there when I bought the horse. After a letter from my vet they agreed to pay half.

I might be wrong but aren't they brokers as I'm sure the underwriters for my insurance are different most years?

They are also helpful if you want to change things around to make the quote cheaper.

I've used them (basically because they sponsor my horses breeders and so I got a decent discount) but I wasn't particularly taken with their Policy Terms. I claimed once (VF's) and they paid out with little issue but I incurred numerous other costs that would have been covered by the NFU for example.

They wouldn't be my 1st choice but I would insure with them before several others.

I've used them for years, never had a claim but I like the customer service so far - they answer the phone promptly and have always been very helpful. I believe they are brokers, for South Essex Insurance I think.
