Sheath cleaning

What do you use to clean your geldings sheath? Ive always used baby wipes before but it seems pretty sticky in there today so wondered if something else would be better?

KY jelly.

My gelding does not like being cleaned at all. If I'm quick I can apply KY and this does keep him clean if applied regularly.

I use agri gel from country stores. It’s designed for when vets do internals and doesn’t upset skin pH balance.

Baby oil, many sheath cleaners, soap, etc are not typically recommended

I squirt the warm water hose in.

I use barrier sheath cleaner. I know they are not supposed to be great but I had an older horse with bit of a gunky issue ? it was the only thing that allowed me to get it clean with out him being uncomfortable or seeming foamy.

Absolutely not recommended, sorry. Clean water or some KY jelly, or a specialised product only, and we also have to remember not to clean the sheath too often so as not to disturb the natural microbiological balance within it.

Not IME. Vet type agrigel for internal examination is what one’s I’ve seen use.

Cheap aqueous cream from the bargain store. Leave in situ for half an hour or so, then clean all the gubbins out.

I think might be fairly similar stuff. But one can be bought in bulk cheaply.

That’s not enough IME if really crusty or really greasy.

Clumps of cotton wool and warm water only. Change the CW lots.
