Shedding the fluff...

I find that when mares are pregnant they keep warmer than empty mares. Ours needed lighter weight rugs than the others. So it is possible that your girl is noticing a difference in the temperature and has decided it is time to get rid of the fur coat.

If there are no other sign that she is off colour, or that she is not feeling/looking her normal self, then I wouldn't worry.

Dolly is shedding like there is no tomorrow! She has always been a mare that doesn't like to be too hot, so am leaving her rugless, other than a thin rainsheet in the field.

The only other change is that she is grruuuummmmpppyyy! Someone really does NOT like being preggers!!

She also seems to be itching her belly more. She's always been an itchy horse, it's the way to her heart, a good scratch, but normally on her withers, shoulder or bum - never her belly!

I assume she's just really uncomfortable atm
