and why?!

Thinking of using one on my boy to help the fitting of his saddle (it was fitted with the intention of using a pad) Previously used a prolite, but wander if a shepskin will mould better? But interested for the reasons for people using them under their saddles

I have one that I am using at the mo, Spring's saddle was taken out 1/2 a fitting at the back end of the summer as she had muscled up quite a lot but having had a fair bit of time off and dropping some weight over winter, it is now a bit too wide. I like the 'comfort factor' of it because it is natural and soft, also when she sheds her coat some of her numnahs rub but the sheepskin doesn't.

I had to use a borrowed saddle for a few months on Morris and i'm always a bit paranoid about a saddle fitting properly. So i used a half sheepskin one on top of his normal numnah just to pad it a bit more. I still use it though even though he has a new fitted saddle - i just think they look cool!

I use one coz my pony is fully clipped in winter and although I leave on a saddle patch of hair it gets rubbed (I have had his saddle checked and nothing wrong) (also rubs same amount both sides). I use the half pad because it just protects him a bit more and it really does make a difference.

I use a Stephens half pad with my Kieffer dressage saddle, always have done with my boy and have the saddle fitted specifically with the pad.

I had problems with a small soft swelling on his spine, no matter what type of saddle. With much trial and error I discovered that this didn't happen with the sheepskin pad (did with a prolite etc).

I only use a sheepskin pad on Oscar cause Frogpool saddle fitter said he was a bit cold backed....saves me buying a special pad. Ty doesn't need one so doesn't have one!

i bought a mattes one to fill out the saddle alittle more, as it was fitted wide, to allow him to develop

have to say, ive now swapped back to my prolite, but it was a worthy investment at the time

Have got a beautiful black stephens half pad..... bought because they look sooooo comfy.

Had the saddler to check it wasnt making the saddle too narrow and then havent really used it because worried it will get ruined

How sad am I????

Second thoughts, dont answer that one!!!

I have used it for a long sponsored ride though!!

I use a half pad under Milly's saddle.

I haven't yet found a full pad that doesn't pull down across her withers and is big enough to go under her saddle.

The halfpad doesn't move at all, so that's why I use it.

my old boy's saddle is a bit wide for my new boy so i'm using a half pad to pad it out while he fills out. hopefully wont need it soon, although confess that i do quite like the look of them.
