Sheepskin half pads

Does anyone have any experience using these? They look pretty expensive........... what would be the best make to buy ?

Had saddler out last night and she said I need to put one under my saddle just to lift it slightly to eliminate any pressure points as my lad is 26 and obviously with his age is beginning to change shape slightly and at this present moment this is the only alteration I need to make to his saddle fitting - then get it checked again in 6 months for any further changes.

Obvioulsy going to get one asap but having no experience of them before they just all look about the same to me - expensive and fluffy !!

mine was £30 its a cottage craft one, really good value for money and washes really well

I have two - a Christ - cost about £40 but is far superior to the Roma £30 one I bought in terms of density of wool etc.

both wash up brilliantly, though i do use special sheepskin wash on the Christ one, but at £6 a bottle which has lasted oevr a year I can cope with that!!

I would spend out more on a decent one if you will be using it every day - I wish I'd spent the extra for another christ one if I am entirely honest.

I have a CC one too and agree they are great and look lovely - Have to admit not to washing it yet though!

It does go inbetween saddle and cloth so not straight onto horse! And am scared what it will wash up like!! So thanks P_G for confirming it will wash ok!

I have a Shires fake sheepskin half pad and I love it. It's very easy to clean too, even after a very muddy day of hunting

I have the Stephens one with the 4 gel inserts. It was about £70 but washes up like new. I doubt you need the gel model though so would be cheaper

just bought a numed full sheepskin one as saddler said the same as yours - rode in it yesterday its like sitting on a cushion - must feel like that for the horse too - expensive thought £50-60 but if you look after it i think it should last years x x

I have the one with gel, i haven been brave enough to was h it tho! Rambo- do you have to wash it in any special product? Also what temp ect? Thanks.

I have one on the way following a recommendation by my saddler. No idea what make it is, he's posting it to me. Think I'm paying around £70 for it.

i have the stephens one also and it washes up great on a 40 degree wash with normal washing powder/tablet. Equestrian clearance did have some of these for sale at a very good price £39.99 might be worth a look as they are normally over £50

Have one of the lemiuex (sp) ones from Horse Health Wessex. Cost around £40

I also have one I got from CatherineSkinner from here which she got from a very expensive company.
Brilliant pad also.

i personally am impressed with mine i have had quite a few in the past coz i find them very kind on a horses back and have used them on a couple of youngsters and a horse that has a bad back and pelvis coz he was ill treated,i currently have one on my 4 year old pony and it is a roma one and you can get them in a few colours i believe any shires stockists will do them also robinsons stockists.mine is really fluffy and really nice i know its weird and i am probably imagining things but sumtimes i think i feel more comfortable when it's on too!lol.mine also only cost £35.try ebay too! ella xox

and it is black therefore reduced washing needs

Thanks everyone - reading all these think I will definitely try and splash out on a more expensive one as I will be using it every day so hopefully it will last longer and wash well.

My stable neighbour turned up with a Stephens one tonight that she dug out from home that she used to use on a horse with back problems and is letting me borrow it for as long as i want untill i find one to buy so thats great, plus I get to try it before I buy!!
