sheepskin half saddle pads question

I have seen several people using them and am thinking of buying one cos they look as if they would be super comfy for my horse without looking too bulky, and I would be able to use it with all the saddlecloths I have in my colours already..... but I wonder if they will they affect the fit of my saddle or make it roll because they are so thick? I normally just usa a saddlecloth....

Anyone had these problems?

It would affect the fit of your saddle, I have been recommended to use one on my saddle by a saddler. I think a lot of times they are for show but in my case it is because it was recommended. I have the Nuumed one

Hi we've used one for about 18mths without any problems, checked it out with our saddle fitter and he said they were fine.

they will affect the fit of your saddle, as obviously they are thick and will make it narrower on the withers.

I only used one when i was waiting for my saddler to reflock my saddle. I wouldnt use one on a saddle that has been professionally fitted - there is no point if the saddle fits properly in the first place.

Hmm... my saddle is correstly fitted anyway... so there is no real need for me to have one and i might aswell save the money for something I actually need... but the "if the saddle fits you dont need a pad" part of my brain was arguing with the "awww... fluffy, squishy things for my spoilt horse" part of my brain!!!

I have a half pad

It's pink and squishy and I love it

PF's saddle fits very nicely WITH it on but sits a bit low without it (fitted saddle myself as there ARE no saddle fitters out here)

Hmm... I may ask the saddler about them on his next visit tho... I guess its different for each horse and saddle style etc

I have one and wouldnt be without it. My saddle has been checked by a master saddler with it fitted and he is happy with the fit.

I have sheepskin half saddle pads on all of my horses - without anything else and it works brilliantly - but I fit my saddles with the sheepskin so there is room underneath for it. I use sheepskin as it is super absorbant so soaks up huge amounts of sweat.

My saddler recommended I use one as my boy had lost weight since he had his saddle fitted. Rather than reflock the saddle (you can't unflock it again) she said just use the half pad. He seems pretty comfy in it but I need to get a numnah sized version really.

I have one, was advised by farrier to get one to lift the front of the saddle.
