The horse who at one point reared up 7 times in 5 mins, refused to go off the yard full stop and with one certain forum member required to be blindfolded to follow the other horses down a bridlepath is finally a happy hacker.

Been working this year ever since had the light to get her out and wow what a change she definetly maturing this year. Slowly built up firstly going out with reliable company then taking the lead and now finally she hacks out alone!

She has been out twice in two days and been basically foot perfect.

So please excuse me whilst I do a happy dance as wasn't sure if would ever get her out alone a few years ago.

Bless her, i hope she is enjoying it
Good for you for persevering (sp) many would have given up, me included if the truth be known. I hope you both continue to have fun together
I do love a happy ending

That is really good, well done you and as missugoopy says, for persevering. Indeed that was a challenge many would have given up on. Lucky horse for having you.

well several times hacking in general got put right on the back burner for long periods to extent although housemate got her originally as 4yo and she now 7yo this is the first year she has gone out more than 5 mins away from home. But as with so many WBs in this her 7th year a lot of things just seem to be 'clicking' into place! So nice to hack out this evening with the confidence we could complete the hack without major incident

Good for you for working slowly and calmly to sort the situation out, instead of just insisting she should "get it" when she clearly wasn't.

Some of the WB lines do seem to take a very long time for their brains to grow into their bodies. They're ridable and often very physically talented but not really trustworthy and confident in themselves until 6 or 7. (When, funnily enough, they are actually finished growing.) I've had one line in particular where you just had to keep taking deep breaths from backing until they're about 6 and cling to the moments of brilliance that show themselves in the times when all the pieces fit. Then all of a sudden the horse wakes up one day and says, "Right, enough of this messing about, I know what I'm up to now," and puts it all together. Rushing and pushing and getting frustrated only makes it worse, backing off completely means it never gets better.

Glad to hear you've persevered and been suitably rewarded.

Well done you. a lot of people wouldn't perservere like it sounds you have done and I'm sure that she's much happier now that you can go out together

Went out with Housemate for over an hour into totally unknown territory today including going through the local village and the only scary thing was a yellow drain cover!!!!
