She's in foal !!!

Hi all,

My mother in laws mare went to stud last year, came home had blood test and scan which came back negative - vet (down here) said she hadn't taken.

So the mare went back up to stud Sunday and vet (up there) came out Monday, did a blood test and turns out she is in foal!

The vets down here got it wrong! Now.. has anyone ever had this happen to them? We're all wandering if there is any way we can claim the money back we spent on the scans/blood tests and various other fee's.

Potentially could have been bad, she was on an laminitic patch whilst 9 months gone as they thought she was fat, luckily she isnt ridable, but what if she was and they'd brought her back into work and had been doing loads of stuff with her!

Yep. I bought a mare. Very fat. Rode it on the weds, had to have another horses saddle on as hers didn't fit. Owner said she had been out in the field for the last 6 months doing nothing. She had been scanned the previous year and found not in foal. She had been a brood mare for 10 years so they decided to retire her from breeding.
Went back on the monday to arrange vetting etc to be met at the gate to be told there was a "huge problem". Huge problem was in the field the next morning .
I left mare and foal with previous owners until foal was weaned. I went ahead and had the mare my friend took on the foal.

Aw thats nice that you can keep track of the foal too! We're all really happy she's in foal , so it was a nice surprise, but its just all the money spent with the vets and all the results weren't correct! Plus the mare hasn't been having the stud mix and receiving all the supplements etc she should have been! Think the vets took the blood test to early, but surely they should no when to take it?
