Pinto is not a term I hear used very often, anything that is white and something else is described, generically, as a paint - the little black paint, or the yellow paint etc, etc, etc.

There are registers for Pintos, bit like CHAPS/ DHAPS/Palomino Society etc though in that anything that qualifies colourwise can be entered.

Lol I think I follow I you. The clue would be I said Paint rather than paint I would have thought, that capital letter making all the difference but its too long since I was at school to explain why :)

It's quite funny because the next thing they say is, she is a lovely colour and I say she is a bay dun tobiano, and they say don't you mean a buckskin since she is American. Nope, I don't :D

I've two crosses out of the same dam ans sire. If I wasn't certain of this fact I'd never believe it as they are completely different. Height, build, colouring, personality. Can see both crosses in one and only slightly in other.
I also have another of the same cross but different parents. No one would guess either original breed in her.I still can't see it and I know the breeding.
The others mainly look their breeding but if someone called the wbs a tb I wpuldnt have a melt down ;) I might have a giggle if they thought the ids were though.

I really couldn't care less what breed people thought mine were, its really not important. My connie x tb looks mainly connie, longer limbed & in the body/neck, & has tb like fine mane & tail & coat, although it does grow to native length. Most people guess connie x tb, but at local shows has won as a pure connie without question. Also by less experienced people been called a racehorse, a cob, camargue & a show pony. My old horse, a well bred 17.2 sports horse was often called a tb by people. Daughters 11.1 mini x has attracted the most amusing comments though. We know her dam was a mini, & she is dainty & fine. Her intelligence indicates some native, as does her winter coat. However in lots of ways she resembles a scaled down tb. Out hacking she has been called a foal, or 'look at the baby one'. (daughter initially was offended that people thought she was mean enough to ride a foal). When she was 3 she was very foal like still, & taking her out in hand or from another horse, I once had someone mistake her for a dog at a distance. Age 2&1/2 I had a horsey person stop & tell me not to take her from her mum for too long before she was weaned. At shows she's been referred to as an exmoor, a new forest & a mini tb. It really doesn't bother me in the slightest.
Re warmbloods- the original definition was hot blooded x cold blooded. So in theory arab x suffolk punch would be a warmblood. However mainly now its used after several generations.

Could be worse.People keep calling my MULE a DONKEY!...Let me know when you see a bright bay donkey it'll be worth a fortune.
I don't mind donkeys have mini's myself but all anyone does with donkeys in this country is keep them as field ornemants.

Doesn't bother me at all. When our QH girls are rugged they are often called arabs, they are halter bredwith pretty little heads. When they see their backsides they retract the comment! Our girls have the faces of princesses but the arses of cooks!

A sport horse is not even a recognised mix of particular breeds. It is a type. It could have anything in there as long as it could perform at something at some level. Therefore probably has a fair dose if TB.

To be honest I do put importance on breeding. I know some of you say it matters not a jot as long as health, conformation and
temperament are good. But if the breeder put no thought or
research into the parents, then
getting those 3 important things will be pot luck. which is why there are so many unwanted poor quality horses and ponies being passed from pillar to post.

You can have superb examples of two different breeds/ types, who each are top quality horses, but, to breed the two together will not produce a good youngster.

The breeding of each animal is important, it defines the end result.

Klix, your thread title was bound to cause controversy :o:D

By saying "She's NOT a thoroughbred!!!!" you imply there's something wrong with thoroughbreds, even if that's not what you meant. Which was sure to get backs up. ;)

Well, i have no idea what an Oldenburg is and in all honesty have never heard of them but im sure they're beautiful :)

It makes me laugh when people think my grey is old and my even more when my sec d is mistaken for a tb. He's long with fine hair and with a combi rug on you'd never know :)

I think a lot of people who have crossbred horses tend to label them as something 'oh he's a Sports Horse/Warmblood/Irish Cob' etc and then get totally offended when other people fail to notice/subscribe to this ;)

I have a tall thin black one and a slightly shorter, hairier black one. Couldn't care tuppence what people call them - although they are usually referred to as 'those effing hay burners' or similar :D

Jinglejoys..

I have you know, that my donkey is not a 'field ornament'
Next year, we will be breaking him to harness, and showing in the new year!

Thanks.

I remember years ago the non-horsey mum who had been with her child to see the Spanish riding school watching my connie x tb prat about in the field asking if she was one of 'those lipy-zarners' cos she was doing the stuff in the air. Now imo nobody could be offended by the assumption your horse has the ultimate training, even if that assumption stems from lack of knowledge, so for me the same rule applies even if its not complimentary.

I have a Selle Francais X Oldenburg and people always presume she is a TB! Doesn't bother me though as when she is fit she does look quite like one, she isn't a chunky WB like some are so easy mistake to make.
We also have a NF which my daughter rides and shows, he has been mistaken for a Highland, Connie and most often a Welsh C! One judge actually asked my daughter If she was sure he really was a NF (she is only 9 so maybe they thought she didn't know!) I showed him his passport after the class and he was really surprised and apologetic! He is a beautiful boy though, Dun with a very pretty face (even if I do say so myself!)

People automatically presume that Pippa is a TB because she can shift from one side of the field to the other in a blink of an eyelid... I can assure you that she isn't. Doesnt bother me though, have gave up correcting people now :p
