Ive been trying to ring Jacks owner all morning and the first time I rang her, her daughter answered the phone and said she was at the stables. SO, the owner knows Ive phoned, BUT her mobile in turned off (its always on!) And theres no answer at the house now!!
Im not happy people!!

She could well be fed up of you calling her while she is trying to finalise arrangements to get him collected.

I'd give her until this evening before you call again

Can you leave a message on her mobile - telling her that the horse will arrive back with her tomorrow morning (you take it).

Or leave a message saying you would like the horse collected this weekend at a specified time. If she doesn't collect it you will charge liver from that day onwards...

Or ring her mobile from a different phone - so she doesn't know it's you, and picks up?

She could genuinly be tied up??

You got the horse on saturday, owner has filled his stable.
You decide you don't want the horse anymore. Fair enough, that is your perogative and one of the aspects of a loan to be taken into consideration.
Now the horse may be a serial rearer, or he may not be, either way none of know for sure.
So you want to give the horse back and you are demanding owner collects immediately, do you have a contract? I know when I had one 1 months notice was required on return of the horse ....

So you are demanding owner drops everything to collect said horse, I could be she is trying her hardest to make suitable arrangements for as quickly as possible (of course she may not be!)

I'm just looking at this from both angles and I think you are potentially being a little irrational and unfair.

I would request the horse be collected by the end of next week, after which point you should then make arrangements for the horse to be returned to her.

I don't read it like that B&J. I think Moonwalkder would like to be able to discuss the collection of thehorse at a time that is mutually convenient.........

Yes I would, but she rang me yesterday morning and was just going on at me about having him PTS and said she'd ring me later and never did!!!!
Now I cant get hold of her and I want to know whats going on.

Sorry I obviously misunderstood your previous post in the other thread

'I text her last night to ask her when she is coming to get him and she said, as soon as we can organise it and she'll be in touch in the next few days! '

As I took that to mean she would be in touch in the next few days (eg. 2-4 days) rather than the same day

Oh dear. Seems that she is a wee bit barmy. I have no real ideas, but she is avoiding you definately - poor you and poor horsey. I suppose she could be trying to sort things out for his return, but just to pick up her phone would be nice. It sounds a bit like me - you want to get the horse gone NOW, and possibly she is not on that wavelength.

Call from an unknown number, or block your number before calling. Worked for me when I couldn't get info on a pony I had had returned re vaccinations (turned out she had lied about it)
Or maybe she does just need a day or two.

Give her time to make arrangements

. I can take horses at the drop of a hat, but many others cannot. I think she deserves a bit of leeway, don't you?

Considering the situation I don't think it would be unreasonable to give the owner a few days in order to make arrangements for the horses return. Whilst I don't agree with the way this owner seems to be trying to guilt-trip you, I do feel you have been rather hasty in judging this horse. Most horses take several weeks to settle into new surroundings and whilst that doesn't excuse him rearing, in your situation I would have at least given him a chance to settle.

Most horses don't rear in a new home though

I do agree that he needs to go back but think she needs to give her a few days to organise.....

Moonwalker, we have a horse on our yard that will go up on her back legs straight away with no warning what so ever whoosh up she goes.
Any way to cut a long story short she was sent to Richard Davidsons yard whilst the owners were on holiday and he is under the impression that some horses rear when they are unsure what is asked of them and also when they are stressed.Maybe having been overtaken by the other horse he felt stressed. Its just a thought.

You have to do whats right for you, however its very early days and have you no one else to ride him over the next few days and see how he gets on, if he goes up again they you know you are making the right decision.

Good luck
