I have recently become the owner of a registered Shetland pony & was thinking of becoming a member of the Shetland Pony Society. If I want to show do I have to be a member or would I need to join the NPS too? It's all a bit confusing. Does either society provide a list of relevant shows? If anyone can help i would appreciate it.

You do not need to be a member of the stud boom sciety to compete in Shetland classes or get their rosettes. NPS, bsps, puk etc is up to you. If you want to pick up their qualifiers then you need to be a member but if you aren't fussed with that then no, you don't need to be a member. You also don't need to be a member to enter shows generally. Look for your local Shetland pony group a they usually hold a few shows a year and will be able to give you a list of all shows in the area with Shetland classes.

Don't be affraid to take your sheltie into mixed M&M classes either - judge dependant of course! But breeders local to you will be able to advise who best to show under and more importantly who best to avoid with the type of pony you have.

Thanks for the replies - it's all new to me as I've never had any Shetlands before! The information you've given is great 👍.
