Today we toddled off down the road to the old Lanark Racecourse for the Scottish Welsh Pony Show. It was supposed to be Gerry's ridden debut (at the grand age of 12 ?) but he got in a fist fight with the yearling the other week, got a black eye and hasn't been quite right under saddle since. So whilst he is fixing we took said yearling and Lunar Fire for the Shetland classes instead.

First up was Dum Dum aka Mirkwood Retrojet. He has all of a sudden grown half a fluffy winter coat in in the last week and is also casting it so he was a right hairy monster! Bloomin yearlings! They don't quite know what they are doing with themselves ?? Outside of the ring he behaved himself almost impeccably. He has a bit of a thing for Highland ponies though so made every effort to make himself known to them when he saw one! In the ring he decided it was a head tossing day in trot and at one point he swung his head so hard into my boob I was nearly winded and thought it was going to fall off! But he still managed to get a blue 2nd place rosette to go with the red and yellow he got a few weeks ago.

Boys will be boys ??

Next up was Lunar Fire. She hasn't been shown in a few years, was dragged in from the mares field, bathed and chucked in a stable for the night as it was threatening to rain. Not that she cares! She likes the attention. Of course she put her best foot forward to win her Mare & Gelding class over some lovely ponies which means she has only ever been out of the top 2 placings twice in her entire life now, once as a yearling and once when I swear someone had fed her cocaine that day as she was so badly behaved ???

Not an early, early start but an early home time in the grand scheme of things. Would have been quicker in the ring and home if you could park nearer the rings. The mini lot were taking on in the ring, running back to the box with it and bring another back and so and so forth. It is very time consuming and annoying for everyone that is at the ring ready to go and watching it sitting empty for 5mins am a time between classes.
