Hello, we have two Shetlands that came to us in December. They are exercised about 3 times a week (sometimes lunged, otherwise small riders). Turned out/stabled half half.
No surprise, they've gained weight recently because our grazing plan hasn't worked out. They were meant to be sharing with sheep but the sheep in question won't stay in with the ponies. They are grazing on about 5 acres of bad/pre grazed grass, with spring growth (hence the concern). The large area is a good thing anyway as they do walk around considerably.
So, wondering about grazing muzzles (recommendations for Shetland proof ones), strip grazing, night time grazing or a different plan that works for others. Unfortunately we don't really have somewhere appropriate for a pen.
The ponies are both 9 years old and no lami history that we know about (previously living in a v small field).
Thank you
