Shetlands - how fat is too fat? Photos, please?

Should have realised HHO would be the wrong place to go for discouragement.....I'm serious that we have faaaaaarrr too much grass right now though! Need mini mouths to get rid of some...! 😂😏 And reading sales is super close by....

Reading lost its SPSBS status after the complaints last year. A certain community were being particularly unpleasant to ponies and humans which put a lot of buyers off.

You definitely need another one - it's positively cruel to keep one on its own;);) And then perhaps you could start driving in tandem!! ......... (It's such fun to make plans for other people's lives!!)

when i win the lottery and can buy my own place i will have a few shetlands around the place., as companions so they will have a job, sort of, and would love to learn to drive them to keep them fit. now i have thought about it i really want to drive some shetlands!!!!! just need some dosh....

I can't think of anything more terrifying than driving my Shetland! She is sooooo willful! When I backed the NF, I thought I might have a go at backing her too. I tried lungeing her & she just stood there & looked at me. I eventually got her walking, waved the lunge whip to encourage a bit more forward motion & she gave an outraged squeal & tried to cowkick me. Tried longreining instead...firstly she just wanted to graze (no surprises there...), then she got cross at being asked to do something other than graze, ran off, jumped a 4 ft wide ditch, jumped back, repeated the exercise & then tried to disappear at speed. OMG, that thing in a cart...doesn't bear thinking about!

I am also not sure how a saddle would stay on her as she is the shape of a 40 gallon drum...no discernable wither... Academic now as I will **not** be getting on her! Her lickle ickle bridle with its teensy weensy bit is the cutest thing ever, though!

Driving tandem sounds like a terrible idea with shetlands, one up front doing exactly what it likes all the time lol!

OMG, too cute, G&T! :pThey are so funny when they run as it’s all scuttly! Florence (Shetland) used to try and race my ex-racer, scuttling like mad after him and kicking up her heels!

*Any* type of driving with Shetlands sounds like a terrible idea! Mine would jump that ditch and b*gg*r off, and there would be no survivors! 😮😮😄

Yep! In particular the smaller piebald (Rupert) has such a scuttle-y action he pretty much looks like two men in a pantomime horse costume... Not sure if Shetlands are meant to track up? Mine definitely don't :D
