I have made my own Dually halter!

Chico is an awkward loader but the pressure halters work well, however i dont have fund to buy a real Dually at £50.

So......

Found a spare headcollar (had to be one with buckle on nos)

Unpicked noseband and removed it.

Sewed noseband back on behind the metal buckle thing

Ordered some rings and strong parachute cord.

Threaded cord through metal buckle and rings.

Tied the cord ends together in secure knot.

Admired my creation! :D

Whole thing cost me £5 in total!

I used the thin cord so it would be more comfortable and the parachute cord is not only very strong but very soft.

No patent infringement if i dont sell it, lol :):o

here are the links to the cord and rings i bought from ebay

RINGS

CORD

You could use thicker cord if you wanted, i would suggest buying a cheap dog lead, the nylon rope type, to keep costs down.

Only took me 45 minutes to do the whole thing :)

The metal buckle thing is an American Stop Square :)

nicely done,:) i keep looking at dually's and thinking they can't be that hard to make and you've proved it:D I've got enough old headcollars and dog leads lying around i reckon i may have a go at doing one myself later:)

Well done! Going to give it a go as some so-and-so pinched my black dually but left the blue one behind. Really was loathing forking out £40 for another but have a few headcollars that would do the trick. :)

You are a wee bit late!! I made my own too about six months ago because my red dually is not small enough for my welsh A's and some of the B youngstock.
I didnt unpick the noseband tho I just added on two more fittings from a knacked white halter, two round rings came off an old headcollar and the rope was a cord fillet.
Cost - zilch..... and works a treat !!

You're more resourceful than me! I bought my Dually on ebay. Could have saved myself the cash. Mind you, I bet I'd have never got round to it...:

tested it out this morning and it works a treat :D

The fit was great because i had used an adjustable noseband so just tightened it with that and the headcollar sat snugly on his head.

If you dont want to have to unpick and re-sew the noseband you could always just thread the cord and rings through the 'american square stop' and have it sit infront on the noseband - i think that would work equally as well :)

another version which I've used for since the mid 1970's:
Old drop noseband - remove the rear strap & buckle strap.
Either add coupling (used to be lots about for stallion/youngstock showing bridles) to the 2 rings, or thread short old small-dog check chain through rings & clip leadrope to chain rings or coupling.

On occasions, if run out of chain or coupling, then get soft curtain tie-back cord & thread cord through the 2 rings in double width. Attach lead rope to this.

Put headcollar on & put the drop noseband over the top.

Can pick up old drop nosebands for peanuts on fleabay or tacksales.
