no matter how hard I try I can never get my lads coat to shine....
is it down to linseed oil or topspec cause ive tried them all and nothing seems to work....
What do you use...?
My lad is a palomino so im wondering if his coat is meant to shine really...?

Usually palominos have gorg coats,(yes they do shine just maybe not as obvious as a bay, they usually have a lovely tint when the sun catches them)have my lad on bluechip pro at the mo and his coat is awesome, have just used corn oil in the past which improved his coat...you could maybe try a seaweed supp which will be cheaper than bluechip

I was told by a lady that show to high level the secret is Soya Oil in their feed. It does definately work ours look much better since starting to feed it.

I can cover Crop in Coat shine before a show and she still doesn't shine!!! She's just very slippery!!! I think that its her coat, I've tried lots of different things and nothing works on her

There are lots of things you can try:
Vegetable oil, Linseed oil, Soya oil
Good balancer (I use top spec anti lami cus I have a fatty)
Show shine chaff
Bailey's outshine
Various coat shine products
Regular grooming
Clean rugs/tack etc

Palominos DO shine! This rather unflattering photo, sorry Zeus, doesn't show the irridescent shine at all, but my chap is just on grass-ish (heaven knows what he eats, he roams in the woods and has his pick), just a bog standard mineral lick, but no hard food anyway right now, and this is how he looks ungroomed. His coat is also so incredibly silky, mud and dirt just slide off. I had been told that stallions often have this sort of shine, but I have seen it on mares and gelding as well.

I use a seaweed supplement and cod liver oil and Finella's coat has definitely improved but she is a native and will never have that "high gloss finsh".

Well apart from a good diet and perhaps a suppliment/oil etc to make sure our horse is getting a good balance of food etc

I would recomend using Lincoln Total Groom in your grooming sessions, its brilliant stuff, brings all the dust out, gives a lovely sheen and just a few sprays once week leaves you with long lasting results for weeks and the hair is like silk to touch and I find it better than any show shines I've used too.....sussssh dont tell everyone though.
