Has anybody got the ingredients for homemade saddle soap?? It is suppose to make your leather gleam!!

Alternatively has anyone used a product that leaves your leather gleaming without being sticky? Apparently the Police use boot Polish???

Patent Shine for Leather is fab, gives a great shine and not sticky at all - pm me if you want an address for a shop that sells it.

I like my saddle as sticky as possible, along with sticky jods - I like to stay in it!!!!!!

Use Stubben Hamerol - fab stuff!

When I worked for the showing yard we used milk and the old fashioned bar of saddle soap.
1 pint milk plus bar of SS put on the hob and melt the bar. Once melted put in a empty icecream container and let it set.
It never went smelly or anything and gave a bootiful shine on tack.

Failing that, you can purchase something called Urad which dries to a shine or Grand Prix saddle soap, both very good, the latter very similar to the homemade version.

Nag and Dog refrence Michelle Tipper, head girl for dressage rider Nicky Barrett suggests using a homemade saddle soap for tack that really gleams.

"Melt down two bars of glycerine saddle soap, add 1?2pt of milk and leave the mixture to set. Use like normal saddle soap, and the milk helps to condition the tack.

Dont use boot/shoe polish on tack it contains solvents that will make it crack. Husband is ex army sgt told me that

So what did he use to polish his parade boots?

The polish will crack but the leather doesn't.
