Shires equi-boot? After hoof abscess....

I have used one of these boots many years ago, and if you can get the sizing spot on they can be great, but I would not really be wanting to use one for any length of time.

With regards to the abscess, has your farrier asked you to use a boot? Is it to protect his hoof while you ride because he cannot be shod? I would rather ride without shoes in a field whilst the hoof grows down.
 
Thanks LJR - the hole is about 2 cms deep so potentially dirt can still get into his inner hoof and re-infect, hence I need to keep it covered.

Other than that he's bare-foot, with lovely strong feet!
