I love my shires fly masks as they are the only ones I have tried that seem to stay on my horse however I have a big problem with the fine mesh ones - they dont last very long.

The mesh seems to come away from the edge at the top on first /second wearing so the flies can still get in!

Does anyone have the pvc mesh ones - do they last?

I need to but yet another mask with ears so was looking at those instead hoping the pvc mesh would be more hardwearing or is it a false economy and should I buy an equilibrium one instead?

I have a shires PVC one with ears. It's been through hell and back and, apart from being a little muddy, if like new still. My boy is wearing it 24/7 at the moment, it's been stratched on trees, trodden on, chewed by my filly. You name it it's been through it!

Oh no don't tell me that, I've just bought one lol

I stayed on lovely over his muzzle on the weekend both days, so I'll see what happens over the next couple of days, sorry nothing else to add

I've used the shires ones for the last few years and they've been great. I do prefer the new style PVC as these seem to be far tougher than the mesh ones from previous seasons.

My horse got through 2 new shires fly masks in one week last year!

I wrote and complained to shires and they were very good and sent me two more of this seasons design which was slightly different from last years.
So far they are still in one piece!
Hopefully they've rectified the problems.

I used them many years ago and they were ok but not that long lasting.

I have for the past 9 years used the Cashel Crusaders the tend to last mine about three - four years and they are used 24 x 7 May to September. Do not rub, fit well and rarely come off and with the long nosed ones, it means I do not have to put suncream on their big pink noses as the mask keep them pink and perfect.

Might be worth trying them, I got mine for £27 on ebay this year - they finally managed to wear the old ones out, but they are fine for spares still.
