shires gel pad....

I have just bought a front riser pad (clear gel, butterfly shaped)- it is smooth on one side and has a raised rubber grid on the other side.

Which side goes next to horses skin? I am assuming the smooth but there are no instructions with it and have yet to get a reply from Shires.

I use a similar one, but with the grid on my saddle pad and the smooth side on the saddle. I don't use next to the skin
