Shires Highlander Turnout Rugs?

I really rate Shires rug. They are probably the best in that price bracket but both of the ones you have linked to are 600D which are not that heardwearing in my experience. I only go for 1200D rugs otherwise they rip and are also not that waterproof.

Will look for a 1200D thanks!

Love the highlander rugs. Have a couple of lightweights and a 100g for my highland and daughter has one for her Exmoor. They are a great fit for chunkies.

Most of mine are shires. Two winters use so far and still going strong. Lovely fit on my cob, no rubbing and most importantly for me, the neck cover has plenty of room for a cresty neck

I'd recommend the Highlander over the Tempest if you have a chunky horse, Highlander has shoulder darts and proper chest fastenings whereas Tempests are straight cut with T fastenings.

We have the shires tempest range for our 2 and fit very well - l/w cob and part t/b. Good value, fit nicely and still waterproof a couple of seasons in....

My only gripe is that they have fillet strings rather than leg straps, as would prefer straps for windier days.

For medium and heavy rugs I use Rambo or Rhino, but I did buy a Shirse rug that was waterproof on top and mesh underneath, around 10 years ago when these were not common, and it was truly waterproof.

I now also have a lightweight Shires one, and it too has been waterproof.

The ones with the darts seem more roomy.
